Terms of Use (EULA)
Last updated: April 2, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Forkplate. These Terms of Use, which also serve as the End-User License Agreement ("EULA") for the Forkplate mobile application (collectively, "Terms"), govern your access to and use of the Forkplate mobile application (the "App") and any related services. By downloading, installing, creating an account, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
Forkplate is operated by Rokas Anisas (hereinafter referred to as the "Operator" or "Forkplate"). The Operator is an individual based in the European Union who develops and maintains the App. All references to "we", "our", or "us" in these Terms refer to the Operator.
If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
2. License Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Forkplate grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on any device that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
This license does not allow you to distribute, sublicense, or make the App available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time, unless authorised by a paid tier that includes multi-device sync. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by Forkplate.
For iOS devices, use of the App is also subject to Apple's Standard End-User License Agreement, available at Apple's Standard End-User License Agreement.
3. Account Registration
To use Forkplate, you must sign in using a supported authentication method (Google or Apple). By signing in, you confirm that:
- You are at least 13 years of age
- The information you provide during registration is accurate and complete
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account
4. Service Tiers
Forkplate is available in multiple tiers, each with different features and limitations:
Free Tier
- The only communication with our servers occurs during authentication (sign-in via Google or Apple) — all other functionality operates entirely on your device
- All recipe data, meal plans, ratings, and labels are stored locally on your device only
- Your data is not backed up or synced to any server — if you uninstall the App or lose your device, your data will be permanently lost
- Subject to usage limits (e.g., recipe count, daily meal plan entries)
- Calorie tracking only (detailed macro tracking requires a paid tier)
- No image synchronization
Solo Tier (One-Time Purchase)
- A lifetime purchase that unlocks premium offline features
- Unlimited recipes and meal planning
- Full macro nutrient tracking
- Detailed meal statistics and charts
- All data remains local only — no cloud sync or backup
Solo Cloud Tier (Subscription)
- All Solo features included
- Your personal data (recipes, meal plans, ratings, labels, and images) is synced and stored securely online
- Images are compressed (WebP format) and synced across your devices
- Data is backed up and recoverable if you switch devices
Family Tier (Subscription)
- All Solo Cloud features included for the family admin
- Create a family group and share recipes, meal plans, and labels with family members
- Family members on the Free tier can access shared family data but their personal data remains local only
- Family members with their own paid subscription sync both personal and family data
5. Feature Availability & Plan Modifications
Forkplate reserves the right to modify, add, or remove features associated with any service tier. This includes, but is not limited to, adjusting usage limits, changing which features are available at each tier, and introducing new tiers or retiring existing ones.
Where a modification materially reduces the functionality available to you under a paid tier during an active subscription period, we will provide reasonable advance notice (at least 30 days where practicable) via the App or email. In such cases, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect and receive a pro-rata refund for the remaining subscription period through the applicable app store.
Modifications to the Free tier may be made at any time without prior notice, as no payment obligation exists.
Fair Use & Operational Safeguards
To ensure service stability and prevent abuse, the App applies reasonable operational limits on certain actions (for example, maximum items per entity, sync throughput caps, or family group size). These safeguards are designed to be well above normal usage and should not affect ordinary day-to-day use. The specific thresholds may be adjusted at any time without notice.
6. Data Handling & Storage
Mandatory Authentication
All users are required to sign in (via Google or Apple) to use the App. Authentication is used primarily to identify your account and determine whether you have an active paid subscription. On all tiers, including Free, basic account data (such as your authentication identifier, display name, and subscription status) is stored on our servers.
Local Data (Free & Solo Tiers)
Beyond the account data described above, all content you create on the Free and Solo tiers — recipes, meal plans, ratings, labels, and images — is stored exclusively on your device in a local database. We do not have access to, nor do we store, any of this content on our servers. The Solo tier unlocks premium features but does not include cloud backup or sync. You are solely responsible for backing up your device. Uninstalling the App or losing your device will result in permanent, irrecoverable loss of all locally stored data.
Synced Data (Paid Tiers)
When you subscribe to a paid tier, your data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on secure, hosted database servers. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Row-level security policies to isolate user data
- Authenticated access controls
While we take reasonable precautions to protect your data, no system is entirely immune to security risks. You acknowledge that you provide your data at your own discretion.
Data Deletion
You may delete your data at any time through the App. On the Free tier, uninstalling the App removes all data permanently. On paid tiers, you can delete your account and all associated data directly from within the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account). For full instructions, see our account deletion page. You may also request deletion by contacting us at info@forkplate.eu.
7. Subscriptions & Payments
Paid subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. By subscribing, you agree to the respective store's terms of service and payment policies.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the end of the current billing period
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings
- Refunds are handled according to the policies of the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
- Upon cancellation or expiry of a paid subscription, your account reverts to the Free tier — synced data remains on our servers but is no longer actively synced to your device
Pricing Changes
We reserve the right to change the pricing of any paid plan, including subscription fees and one-time purchase prices. For active subscribers, price changes will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. The Apple App Store and Google Play Store will notify you of any price increase and require your consent before renewing at the new price. If you do not agree to a price change, you may cancel your subscription before it renews.
8. Family Plans
Family tier subscribers may create a family group and invite members. The following rules apply:
- Each user may belong to only one family at a time
- The family owner manages membership (inviting, removing members)
- Recipes created within the family context are considered family property — they remain with the family if a member leaves or is removed
- "Child seats" (virtual family members without real accounts) may be created for meal planning purposes
- The family owner may transfer ownership or delete the family group, which affects all members' access to shared data
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers, systems, or other users' accounts
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the App
- Upload content that is harmful, offensive, or infringes on the rights of others
- Abuse the service by creating multiple accounts to circumvent tier limitations
- Upload to the Community Product Database any content that is not directly related to the food or beverage product being catalogued (see Section 10 for details)
10. Community Product Database
Forkplate includes a community-driven product database (the "Community Product Database") that allows users to contribute product information — including product names, descriptions, nutritional data, ingredient lists, and product images — for the benefit of all users.
Shared Nature of Contributions
Any product information or images you submit to the Community Product Database will be accessible to all Forkplate users. You should not include any personal, private, or sensitive information in your submissions. By contributing, you understand and accept that your contributions become part of a shared resource available to the entire Forkplate user base.
Content Standards
All contributions to the Community Product Database must relate directly and exclusively to the food or beverage product being catalogued. In particular:
- Product images must depict only the product itself, its packaging, nutritional label, or ingredient list
- Product descriptions must accurately describe the product and its characteristics (ingredients, nutritional values, brand, etc.)
- You must not upload content that is sexually explicit, violent, graphic, promotes weapons or firearms, or is otherwise inappropriate, offensive, or unrelated to food products
- You must not upload content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of third parties beyond what is reasonably necessary for product identification (e.g., photographing a product label)
- You must not upload spam, advertisements, promotional material, or any content intended to mislead other users
Moderation & Enforcement
We reserve the right to review, remove, or modify any content submitted to the Community Product Database at our sole discretion and without prior notice. Violations of the content standards set out above may result in:
- Immediate removal of the offending content
- A warning issued to your account
- Temporary or permanent suspension of your account, including loss of access to all paid features and synced data
The severity of enforcement action is at our sole discretion and will be proportionate to the nature and frequency of the violation. Uploading content that is sexually explicit, promotes violence, or depicts weapons will result in immediate account suspension without prior warning.
Reporting
If you encounter inappropriate content in the Community Product Database, please report it to info@forkplate.eu. We will investigate reports promptly and take appropriate action.
Third-Party Data Sources
The Community Product Database may include product information sourced from third-party open databases. In particular, Forkplate uses data from Open Food Facts, a free, open, collaborative database of food products from around the world. Open Food Facts data is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Individual product data contents are available under the Database Contents License (DbCL). Product images sourced from Open Food Facts are available under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike licence (CC BY-SA).
Third-party sourced data is provided as-is. Forkplate does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of data obtained from external sources. All such data is subject to review and correction by the Forkplate community and moderation team.
11. Intellectual Property
The Forkplate App, including its design, code, branding, and documentation, is the intellectual property of Forkplate. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the App without prior written consent.
You retain full ownership of the content you create within the App (recipes, meal plans, ratings, labels, and images). By using a paid tier with data synchronization, you grant us a limited license to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the service.
By contributing product information or images to the Community Product Database, you grant Forkplate a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to store, display, distribute, and make available your contributions to all Forkplate users. This license survives account deletion — product data you contributed remains in the Community Product Database even after your account is closed, as other users may rely on it. You represent and warrant that you have the right to submit any content you contribute and that such content does not violate any third party's rights.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the App's reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. You use the App at your own risk.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Forkplate shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption, arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
In particular, we shall not be liable for any data loss resulting from device failure, App uninstallation, or service interruption on the Free tier where no online backup is provided.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at our discretion if you violate these Terms. Upon termination:
- Your access to synced data may be revoked
- Local data on your device remains unaffected
- Any outstanding subscription fees remain your responsibility
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or deleting the App and requesting data removal.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you through the App or via email.
16. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the European Union, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the competent courts of the jurisdiction in which Forkplate operates.
